I have copied this from a journal entry on October 9, 2008
Well we´ve arrived. I am amazed that we did not lose anyone, nor any luggage in our travels.
It was a long two days of traveling. After saying goodbye to the Sweden team (the only team left in Chicago; they are leaving for Sweden this coming Monday), we headed out. Krista Dutt had left the day before so we needed to take the Train to Ó´Hare. It was a long walk, in reality only two blocks, but some of us had luggage that was not on wheels, so they had to carry their luggage. I am sure we looked quite amusing as we walked our way to the station. Eventually after much laughter we made it. The ride to O´Hare was long, but we got to the airport early and had plenty of time to get through checking in and securtiy. Then started our pattern for the next 2 days, fly for a few hours, then wait in the airport then fly a few hours. We flew 3 hours from Chicago to Miami, during the 6 hour layover the Americans watched the 2nd presidential debate. The flight from Miami to Lima, Peru (5 hrs) was uneventful and we were seated in pairs which was nice. We had a few hours of sleep in Lima while waiting for our flight to Santiago, Chile. The 3 hour flight to Santiago was nice and watching the mountains as we were landing was great, they were so beautiful. While in Santiago it finally sunk in that we were going to Paraguay. The next flight was as well uneventful and we had no trouble with customs the only questions the customs offical asked was where had I come from and if I spoke spanish.
Before we knew it we were being greated by Marta Duarte, Alivin Neufeld, and a number of people from the Church that Tyler will be working with. For the next month Dorothea and I will be staying with Tyler´s family. Scott and Tyler are staying in a room in the church across the street and Craig and Krista are with a woman from the chruch, about a 10 min walk away.
It was a fun and exhausting two days.

what a trip
I’m convinced that that was more than 2 blocks for which we dragged our luggage in Chicago, Rebecca. It felt more like 2 neighborhoods ;) (to the blog readers: mine was the luggage without wheels). Aren’t you finding our language skills improving exponentially by being immersed in the culture? Nice summary – keep the world posted!
